Avoid margin calls with volatility-proof loans

Loans opened with a 50% loan-to-value (LTV) ratio enter a margin call if the bitcoin price falls by about 30% over the term. Such declines have occurred within a rolling 12-month period in about 9 of the last 12 years.

To help you avoid margin calls on standard loans, you can overcollateralize when opening. Also, if the price falls and the LTV reaches 70%, you have 72 hours to add collateral or make a partial repayment. But if you don’t want to worry about margin calls at all, you can opt for volatility-proof loans.

On a volatility-proof loan, no bitcoin price move can trigger a partial liquidation of your collateral, even if the LTV reaches 85%. The obligation to pay interest and repay principal remains the same, so partial liquidations can still occur after defaults, such as missed monthly or maturity payments after the 10-day grace period.
